2023 U.S. crude steel production for one week (4.15-4.22)

For the week ending April 22, 2023, U.S. domestic crude steel production was 1.7 million short tons with a capacity utilization rate of 75.6%. Production for the same period last year was 1.788 million short tons with a capacity utilization rate of 81.9%. Production for the week (as of 4.22) was down 4.9% year-over-year and up 0.8% sequentially, when (for the week ending 4.15) production was 1.687 million short tons with a capacity utilization rate of 75%.

As of April 22, 2023, adjusted annual production was 26.67 million short tons, with a capacity utilization rate of 74.5%. This is down 4.4% from 27.899 million short tons in the same period last year, when capacity utilization was 80.3%.

By region, here is production for the week ending April 22, 2023: Northeast: 151,000 short tons; Great Lakes: 571,000 short tons; Midwest: 216,000 short tons; South: 700,000 short tons; and West: 62,000 short tons, for a total of 1.7 million short tons.
